Bio: Laurie Schlegel, a conservative Republican, was recently elected to serve the people of District 82 in Jefferson Parish, where she was born and raised.
Laurie attended St. Catherine of Siena, Dominican and LSU. She also earned her Masters in Marriage and Family Counseling at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Laurie is a licensed professional counselor with Lighthouse Counseling Center where she helps individuals and marriages in crisis. Prior to becoming a counselor, she worked for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals for over 10 yrs.
Laurie has a heart for people and decided to run in a special election so that she could be a voice for the conservative vision. She believes in limited government, individual freedom, and the rule of law.
After only a few weeks as a State Representative, Laurie successfully carried the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” on the House floor by an overwhelming margin.
She has been married to her high school sweetheart, Judge Scott Schlegel, for over 20 years and they have a teenage son, Luke.
Jennifer is an attorney; award winning former television journalist; and was Chief Operating Officer of Jefferson Parish before being elected in 2015 and 2019.
Some of her key legislation includes:
-leveling the playing field for transportation network companies (like Uber and Lyft) to work alongside taxicabs;
-creating the “Do Not Toss” List so residents can sign up not to have newspaper circulars tossed on their lawns;
-sponsoring the resolution to ‘opt in’ Jefferson Parish so our businesses could get back to business the instant the COVID health stats allowed; and
-currently developing a first of its kind ‘train alert app’.
Jennifer has been recognized by:
-Alliance for Good Government as 2018 Legislator of the Year;
-LDEQ for her “Do Not Toss” Legislation; and
-LA Garden Club Federation for Metairie’s first win as the Cleanest City
