John Scurich is the coordinator and chair of the New Orleans Bicentennial Commemoration of Lafayette’s visit to New Orleans. The events will take place April 9-13 in New Orleans.
In 1824, the Marquis de Lafayette (the last surviving major general of the American Revolution) made a grand tour of 24 states and stopped in New Orleans. The 2025 Bicentennial Celebration marks this historic event.
Lafayette served under George Washington and then returned to France where he with Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (a precursor to the Declaration of Independence). He was invited by President James Monroe in 1824 to tour the United States to instill the “Spirit of 1776” in the hearts of the citizens again. (Sound familiar?)
John will detail all of the celebrations, and we will have fun instilling a Spirit of 1776 within ourselves as we anticipate the Inauguration of President Trump on January 20.
